Mr. Becraft was the youngest and last survivor of the Becraft family, at one time one of the most prominent of Bourbon county families. He was born, reared and educated in Millersburg, and has many friends here who sincerely regret his passing.

Alma Grimes Jones, tells me this (NRG). When her oldest sister Annie Washington Grimes was about to be b. 5 Sept. 1964, during the Civil War, the Dr. had been called, when the "Bushwhackers" came to take her father along with them, he backed against the house & informed them of the situation, they listened, then were told by their commander, to go to the barn & take the horses, they took his wife's riding horse & one other horse.
Certificate # 7708, Informant was daughter Lillian.
She says, in a letter to BLH in 1952, "I was born at gr-fathers (*T.J.G.) home, and was named GEORGIA ANN WASHINGTON STONER GRIMES, for my uncle and aunt, your gr-parents; GEO. WASHINGTON & REBECCA ANN (Grimes) STONER." She chose later to be ANNIE WASHINGTON GRIMES BECRAFT. Father: Phillip Grimes

At the time Annie Washington Grimes (dau of Philip) m. 27 Nov 1883, David "Dink" Walker Becraft, her father's fam. were living across the road from what we call later the Legran Thomas farm. Probably the first place they lived when coming from KY, as they first came to Pettis Co., later moved to near Longwood, MO, then near Arrow Rock in Saline Co. All children were b. in KY, the last being 19 Sept. 1882, was 6 mo. old when coming to MO. They must have moved in early spring of 1883. In a letter to H.J. (Thomas) Tevebaugh, 9 July 1951, Annie tells her, when they m. (date above) Harlan A Grimes (I) stood up with them. This being true he came to MO before that. When the wedding hr. arrived; for some reason no one had thot to contact a Minister, so while the crowd waited in expectancy, someone remembered, then it seems it was her coz. Thos. J. Grimes II, was put on a horse & under whip, was sent to Houstonia, MO, to get a Minister, a distance of about 4 mi. After this the wedding went accordingly.

Georgia Ann Washington Stonner Grimes was born into the nation at War on Sept 5, 1864 near Clintonville, KY. Soldiers came to the home that day in search of horses and help.
She attended country school in Bourbon county and continued private schooling in dance, voice, and instrumental music. In January 1883 she traveled by train to Hughesville, MO with her parents and sister Offie. She taught piano before and after her marriage in both Pettis and Saline Counties.
She married D Walker Becraft Nov 27, 1883 in Houstonia MO. They later returned for a few years to Millersburg, KY, then back to Walker, MO. They settled permanently in Saline County and raised three children, Lillian, Laban and Lucille.
