• Biography: Philip Grimes was born May 26, 1831, in Kentucky, to parents Thomas Jefferson Grimes (1804-1877), and Catherine Kitty Scobee (1808-1895), both born in Kentucky.
Philip was the third child in a family of seven known children. His brothers and sisters were: Emily Grimes-Smith (1827-1848), Rebecca Ann Grimes-Stoner (1829-1864), James Christy Grimes (1833-1887), Robert "Babe" Scobee Grimes (1835-1913), Eugene Grimes (1840-), and John "Cuff" Avory Grimes (1845-1936).
On Mar 17, 1858, in Oldham County, Kentucky, Philip married his second cousin, Sidney Ann Hall (1838-1921).
Philip and Sidney started a life of farming in Kentucky, first in Fayette County and then Bourbon County. Some time after 1882, the family moved and settled in Saline County, Missouri. They had ten children: Edward P. Grimes (1859-1936), Anna Washington Grimes-Becraft (1864-1956), Offia Grimes-French (1866-1953), Philip Lindsay Grimes (1869-1919), Minnie Belle Grimes-Godman (1872-1948), Sidney Hall Grimes (1874-1931), Clarence Tilton Grimes (1876-1924), Eugenia Pearl Grimes (1878-1887), Alma Earl Grimes-Jones (1880-), and Virgil Elmore Grimes (1882-1957), all born in Kentucky.
Philip died Aug 12, 1940, in Saline County. He and his wife and several children are buried in Ridge Park Cemetery.

• Biography: Sidney Ann Hall was born Sep 13, 1838, in Kentucky, to parents M. Wyatt Hall and Nancy Scobee, both born in Kentucky.
Sidney was the seventh child in a family of eight known children. Her brothers and sisters were: John S. Hall (1824-), Joseph Simpson Hall (1826-1883), William S. Hall (1828-), Hannah Hall (1833-), Catharine Hall (1832-), James Hall (1836-), and Wyatt Hall (1841-).
