The well known name of John Beacroft, of St. Marys, has to be added to this week's too lengthy death roll. He died of Bright's disease at Castlereagh after being laid up but a very short time, although he had suffered occasionally since a sever attack of the same complaint seventeen years ago. He was 65 years of age. John Beacroft was born on South Creek near the railway line and lived in the district all his life. He was one of the first carriers and was famous for the big teams he used to drive and his clever manipulation of horses. He was fond of the most powerful horses he could obtain, and was a splendid breaker in, the wilder the animal, the better he liked the task of turning him into an obedient servant. Of late years he was farmer and was doing well when sickness and death intervened. He had four sons and four daughters, two of the latter having died. Six children of course all grown up, are living. One son went away with a prospector and has never been heard of since, George Beacroft is working at Granville, another son Harry is at Armstrong's tannery, and the other ---Pearl---is running a small farm at Castlereagh. A couple of months ago deceased was apparently in the best of health and never looked better and it was a shock to his family that he passed away so soon. He was buried on Monday, a large number of friends and relatives attending the funeral.

The death occurred on Tuesday last of Mrs Elizabeth Becroft, relict of the late John Beecroft, of Castlereagh, at the age of 78 years, at the residence of her daughter Annie, of Hornseywood, Penrith. Deceased was born at Windsor, being a daughter of the late John Cupitt, and married her late husband, of St. Marys, about 56 years ago, when tye went to reside at Danhaved, and later on the Castlereagh, where Mr. Beecroft died nearly 11 years ago. The deceased lady remained there 12 months afterwards, and then removed to Jamisontown, where she remained. About eight weeks ago she visited her daughter, and took ill with influences, and after the complaint had practically left her she passed away. There are six children living, vis, George (Granville), Mrs Dowell (Redfern), Harry (Botany), Purly (York Estate), Annie (Hornseywood), and Albert. The funeral took place at the Church of England, St. Marys, on Wednesday, Rev H F L Palmer officiating, and Mrs. John Price and Bon had charge of the arrangements.
