During his 20's and 30's, James had been a labourer and lived in Dutton. During the 1911 Census, James lived at home with his mother and stepbrother, Peter McKellar. After they married, Rebecca and James were farmers in Dunwich Township, where they raised their family. Stuart died at age 49 on the farm, on March 11, 1920. notes kwb

Routh Rd Rebecca lived on the Southwold farm, and helped her widowed mother Mary (Plain) Beecroft, until she was married December 13, 1911 in St. Thomas, to James Stuart McGaw. After they married, Rebecca and James were farmers in Dunwich Township, where they raised their family. Stuart died at age 49 on the farm, on March 11, 1920. The 1921 Census shows Rebecca aged 42 and her five children, along with Mary Beecroft, Rebecca's widowed mother aged 79, living on their Southwold farm and helping Rebecca raise the children. Sometime after the Census, Rebecca and the family moved to Dutton, Ontario. Rebecca died much later on May 16, 1959 in St. Thomas and was buried with James. kwb
