Muriel (Lynette) Owen died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at her senior living residence in Show Low with her husband, Horace (Doc) Owen, at her side. She lost a brave, three-year struggle with declining health.

Lynette was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Garcia, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Pauline Turley and Albert Farnsworth Beecroft, and moved to the United States in 1948. Four years later, she married J. Duane (Chink) Crandell, and settled in Heber, which has been her home for over 60 years.

Lynette loved to quilt and crochet. She created countless heirlooms for her children, grandchildren, and for charity. Everyone who knew her can attest to her hospitality and cooking skills, and fond memories of gathering around her kitchen table to a feast of great Mexican food.

Lynette was most beloved for her ornery sense of humor and her warm and generous spirit. She championed the underdog and took under her wing those whom others might overlook. She was fiercely loyal to her family and especially cherished her close relationship with her brothers and sisters.

It was a big year for Lynette and her family in 1984. After losing her husband, Duane, four years earlier, she married Horace (Doc) Owen, the man she called "the perfect husband." Doc was the light of her life and has been her most beloved companion for 29 years.

Lynette is survived by her husband, Doc, three brothers: Jack Beecroft of Linden, Glen Beecroft of Taylor, William (Bill) Beecroft of Heber. Also surviving her are her five children: Rikki Strohmeyer of Prescott, Gary Crandell of Heber, Jody Crandell of Spanish Fork, Utah,Lori Mahan of Sedona, and Dana Crandell Bradford of Pinetop; as well as 24 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. She was fiercely proud of her family. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Those who knew Lynette are aware of her private nature. At her request, there will be a graveside-only service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, followed by a luncheon for family and loved ones at the LDS Church.

Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor handled the arrangements.
