• His obituary was published. Bennett L. Cowden, 81, Lawrence, died Wednesday at Cherry Manor Nursing Home in Lawrence. Mr. Cowden was a member of the first Methodist Church, the IOWF and a life member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a retired accountant having been employed by KP&L, International Harvester and Ready Mix.
Survivors are his wife Mae Beecroft Cowden of the; brother Forest, Columbia, Missouri, and a sister Juanita Davison, Hannibal, Missouri.
Funeral services were Friday afternoon at the Rumsey Funeral Home in Lawrence and burial in De Soto Cemetery.

• Her obituary was published. Mrs. May Beecroft Cowden, 92, Lawrence, died Tuesday, July 19, 1988, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Cowden was a cashier at Lawrence National Bank many years. She also was an assistant cashier at First National Bank in Tonganoxie and had worked in several Kansas City Banks.
She was born September 26, 1895, at De Soto, the daughter of Charles S. and Adda Uhl Beecroft. She spent most of her life in Lawrence.
Mrs.Cowden was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrence and several clubs.
She was married to Leno Cowden Aug. 20, 1927, in Bonner Springs. He died March 2, 1988.
Survivors include a sister, Edith Hassler, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Silent City Cemetery at De Soto. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Rumsey Funeral Home in Lawrence is in charge of arrangements.
