With $200 he had saved, constructed a three room house on 4th St. on the land given to them by her father, Jack Uhl, who lived next door on the present Gordon property, corner of Kickapoo & 84th St. The lot and her father's labor was their wedding present. Charles continued in the mercantile business until 1917 when he moved to Bonner Springs to engage in the banking business. The store was remodeled in 1901 and again in 1907, when he sold out. Charles and Addie had three children, Mae, Harry and Edith. Mae (Cowden) of Lawrence worked in the bank. Harry was very successful in an investment company in Topeka. Edith's husband was the assistant dean of Harvard University.

Mr. Beecroft was born at Wolcott Kansas, and at the age of 9 moved to De Soto. His family found the Kaw Valley Mercantile Company, which played an important role in the early history of De Soto. Mr. Beecroft operated the store until 1917. He also served as city clerk and mayor. He was the youngest man ever to serve as master of the Masonic Lodge in De Soto. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge.
Following his retirement from the mercantile business, Mr. Beecroft moved to Bonner Springs, purchasing an interest in the First National Bank. From 1927 to 1930 he served as president of the bank. In 1930 he went to Quenemo, Kas., to reorganize the bank there. Following the closing of the bank he acted as receiver until 1933, returning to Bonner Springs in 1933.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Adda Beecroft, of the home; two daughters, Mr. L.B. Cowden, Lawrence, Kas., and Miss Edith Beecroft of the home, and a son, Harry Beecroft of Topeka.
Funeral services were at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Methodist church, Bonner Springs, and burial was made in De Soto Cemetery.
