The Trinity Wesleyan Church, Napier, was filled with interested friends on a recent date, the occasion being the marriage of Mr. Arthur Mowlem, solicitor, of Auckland, son of Mr. Fred Mowlem, J.P., Palmerston North, with Miss Alice Marion Beecroft, only daughter of the Rev. C.E. Beecroft of Napier and formerly of Auckland. The church was beautifully decorated in honour of the event. The choir was present, and the hymn "The Voice that Breathed O'er Eden" was sung as the bride entered with her father. The Rev. C. E. Beecroft, father of the bride officiated, assisted by the Rev. H. B. Redstone of Wellington.
The bride was given away by her uncle Mr. W. A. Beecroft of Hastings, and looked lovely in her bridal dress of white silk, trained and effectively trimmed with fine lace and orange blossoms, tulle veil, caught with a coronet of orange blossoms, and she carried a lovely shower bouquet, finished with ribbon. The bridegroom presented her with a diamond ring, and also a ring set with pearls. miss L. Beecroft, of Hastings, and Miss White, of Birkenhead, Auckland, acted as bridesmaids. Miss Beecroft wore a pretty pale blue dress, trimmed with creme insertion lace, and velvet picture hat, and Miss White a dainty white silk gown relieved with yellow, and white picture hat trimmed with long ostrich feathers and buttercups, and both carried beautiful bouquets. Master Stanley Mowlem acted as page, attired in a pretty white satin costume. The bridegroom presented the bridesmaids with gold band rings set with opals, as mementoes of the event.
Mr. Leonard Mowlem, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man and Mr. Leslie J. Thompson as groomsman. The service closed with a hymn and the Wedding march, effectively performed by Mrs. W.L. Prime. A reception was afterwards held at the parsonage by Mr and Mrs. Beecroft, when the newly-wedded couple were showered with congratulations and good wishes for a prosperous and happy future. Amongst the many beautiful and valuable wedding presents received was a handsome carved oak salad bowl with silver fittings and a pair of silver gilt fruit servers, presented to the bride by the congregation of Trinity Church. mr and Mrs Mowlem arrived in Auckland (where they make their future home) on Sunday by the s.s. Waikare, and are sure of a warm welcome from a large circle of friends.
