... In Georgetown, Negro property owners entered the new subdivisions along with whites, spreading out from the centers along the waterfront. Shortly after she was freed by george Beall in 1807, Lethe Hill bought from Thomas B. Beall a lot 60 by 30 feet in Beall's Addition. Sallie Hemming's other children did not lose their racial identity, and neither did the black son of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, William Becraft. Becraft maintained the mementoes of the Carroll family for his lifetime in his Georgetown residence. He was born at Carrollton, while his mother, a free woman of color, worked as housekeeper on the vast Maryland estate of the signer of the Declaration of Independence. Events
• She was buried at a cemetery. Notes from FINDAGRAVE.COM, entered by Michael [Randy] Walsh, Jan 20, 2013.
Recently uncovered 2 others besides Caroline and realizing that there are likely 3 similar markers with missing stones.
In addition it appears that Sarah & William are listed together at 118 Beall St, were African American and only Sarah was listed after that which may mean that her husband may have died aprx 1860 - 1864.
Additional info from Trinity interment record 1808-1867 notes death of Rosetta (Line ?) ...daughter of William & Sarah McDaniel looks to say Rosetta was 20.
Also note 1834 burial record lists McDonald rather than McDaniel.
They had a 15 year old daughter that was buried at the Georgetown College Grounds in 1834
Not sure where I got the date of 1865 above, recent info seems to match "Mrs. Becraft" notation in the area of the Trinity book near dates aprx May 1866. Also lists "70 y."

William Becraft of Georgetown, chief steward of the Union Hotel, also earned posthumous encomia from white acquaintances for being "of the old school of well bred, confidential, and intelligent domestics… [ and for] his benevolent and venerable aspect, dignified and obliging manners, and moral excellence." His mother, a free woman, had served as housekeeper for Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Becraft enrolled his daughters Rosetta and Susan in the Oblate school for three quarters. In 1833 Susan joined the Oblate Sisters as a postulant. She later became terminally ill, withdrew from the community, and died at home in 1834. Her older sister, Ann Marie, had joined the Oblates as Sister Aloysius in 1831. She died in 1833. Truly the Becraft family had invested deeply in the Oblate community.
