He was about 8 years old when his family moved to Morehouse, Hamilton County, NY. In 1850 he was living in Morehouse with his brother Jacob’s family. In 1860 he was listed on the Morehouse census as head of household. He was 26, single, and employed as a carpenter. His mother and a nephew, Elias, were living with him. By 1870 Peter was married to Irelia. They had three sons, and one more on the way. The family was living in the town of Kirkland (P.O. Clinton) in Oneida County, NY. Peter owned real estate worth $2,000.00 and still listed Carpenter as his occupation. Irelia may have died after the birth of their fourth son and Peter married, for his second wife, Louise Bouquin. Her parents had come from France or Switzerland and had settled in Morehouse, Hamilton Co., NY by 1850. Louise had apparently been born at sea on the journey to America. In 1870, Louise’s sister, Sophia, was living in the home of William Becraft, Peter’s brother. In 1880, her sister Adel (Della) lived with Peter and Louise. By 1880, Peter had married Louise and they had a son together. They were living in Utica, Oneida County, New York where most of this family would stay for the next several decades. Peter continued in the occupation of Carpenter and was listed as such in the Utica directories of 1887 through 1891. He died in 1893 and was buried in Clinton, Oneida Co., NY. Louise was still living in Utica as a widow in 1930.
