He was born to the late John and Allie Becraft.
On October 6, 1945, John married Elsie Knuppel.
He loved working outside and the couple always had a bountiful garden and a well-kept yard. Together, they enjoyed antiquing and attending auctions. They also treasured spending the winter months in Florida with their friends.
He began his career in Speculator working for Johnson and Sons as a logging camp clerk. In the early 1950s, he then began working for International Paper and moved to Tupper Lake where he served as a co-chairman of the Woodsman Field Days.
He then moved to South Glens Falls and became the pulp wood purchaser for the Corinth and Ticonderoga mills. He retired in 1985 after 34 years with International Paper.
He was a member of St. Michael's Church and coached little league in South Glens Falls for many years.
Aside from his loving wife of 61 years; he was predeceased by an infant son John; and three sisters May, Elsie and Florence.
He is survived by his two sons; his grandchildren; and his great grandchildren; a sister of Norway.
Per John's request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass to celebrate his life was held at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls at a later date.

He is also survived by a sister, Helen Wheatly of Norway.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Home of the Good Shepherd, Dr. Gara, Ruth Fish, and Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

• Her obituary was published in the Post-Star on 8 May 2007 in South Glens Falls, Saratoga Co, NY. SOUTH GLENS FALLS * Elsie Becraft, 87, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Glens Falls Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 27, 1919, in Herkimer, N.Y., the daughter of the late Richard and Eva Knupple.
Elsie worked as a nurse for Dr. Richard Dennis of Herkimer and at Herkimer Memorial Hospital.
In 1945, she married John Becraft and lived in Tupper Lake before moving to South Glens Falls in 1955.
She was a member of St. Michael's Church in South Glens Falls and served on the Rosary Altar Society. She was a volunteer at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Meals on Wheels, The Hyde Collection Art Museum, and many other organizations.
Elsie enjoyed cooking, reading, antiques, going to auctions, playing bridge, wintering in Florida, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren. In recent years, she enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors on her front porch.
The family would like to thank Nonie Randall for the care that she provided to Elsie over the past few years and thank both the Moreau Emergency Squad and the staff at the Glens Falls Hospital for their care of Elsie at the time of her passing. They would also like to thank Ruth Fish and all of Elsie's family, friends, and neighbors that have been so supportive over the years.
In addition to her parents, an infant son, John, and two sisters, Mrs. Ada Happich and Mrs. Gertrude Brennan, predeceased her.
She is survived by her husband, John, of 61 years and their sons, William and his wife, Sarah, of Salem, and Thomas and his wife, Mary, of Queensbury, and their children, Katie Allen and her husband, Jeffrey, and David Becraft and his wife, Lindsay; a sister-in-law and her husband; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls.
Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
