John H. Becraft, age 81 of Montello passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, November 21, 2011 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. John was born in Columbia County, WI on April 26, 1930 to George and Ida (Labrenz) Beecraft. On September 29, 1973 he married Maureen Chickering at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello and together they had one daughter, Surena.
John worked the majority of his life as a farmer and also for various factories throughout the area. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting and fishing as well as spending time with his family and working with their horses. John was also a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Montello.
John is survived by his wife, Maureen and daughter, Surena (Josh Loring) Becraft of Montello as well as his mother-in-law, Louise Chickering of Montello. He is also survived by one brother, Howard of Pardeeville and many other family members and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents and thirteen siblings: Lena, Ernest, Chester, Emma, Clarence, Clara, May, Alice, Verna, Eleanor, George, Floyd, and Florence.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello with Pastor Dawn Helton-Anishnaabeqwa officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Maureen Ellen Becraft, age 71 of Montello passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 10, 2023 at her home. Maureen was born in Greenville, Michigan on February 17, 1952 to Maurice and Ellen "Louise" Chickering. Her family moved to Montello in 1954 and Maureen graduated from Montello High School in 1970. She married John Becraft at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello on September 29, 1973 and together they were blessed with one daughter. John preceded Maureen in death on November 21, 2011.
Maureen worked with her family on their farm as well as at AMPI in Portage. She was passionate about horses and was a long-standing member and current vice-president of the WI Desert Horse Association. Maureen was an active and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello and will be remembered for sharing her: jellies, jams and Jesus.
Maureen is survived by her daughter, Surena Becraft of Sun Prairie and several extended family members and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A memorial service for Maureen Becraft will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. Rev. Lisa Gilbert will preside and inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to The Budda Box Fight Against Cancer, P.O. Box 591, Montello, WI 53949.
