• Her obituary was published. Jane L. Stingley
1924-2016

Jane Louise Stingley, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at her home. Her family had been at her side consistently for the past month.

Jane was born January 16, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to Leland and Mildred Becraft. When she was 3 years old, her family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they lived for many years.

Her brother, Charles, was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and Jane was…graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University). Before her final year at Carnegie Tech, Jane's family moved to St. Joseph where she joined them after her Senior year.

On November 11, 1950, she married Leroy Stingley in a service at her family home on Ashland Avenue. They were married for 57 years until Leroy passed away in 2007. They had two sons, Mark, born in 1952, and John, born in 1956, and Leroy had a daughter, Jonal, born in 1943. Leroy was a 32nd Degree Mason and Jane was a member of Eastern Star, and through the years they enjoyed activities at the Moila Club including square dancing and days at the pool. That pool, along with many other pools, became the focus of their life as John and Mark became avid competitive swimmers. Jane and Leroy became active in AAU swimming for more than 10 years, working and officiating at swim meets. They received an award "For Outstanding Contribution to Missouri Swimming."

Jane worked at the family business, Four State Industrial Electric Company, handling the accounts and books. In fact, she and Leroy were seldom apart during their long marriage.

She was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church which she joined in 1947 and was one of the longest continuously active members. The church was very important to her and became a central focus of her later years.

Jane was preceded in death by: her parents, Leland and Mildred; her husband, Leroy; her brother, Charles; and a grandson, Drew. She is survived by: her son, Mark (Cyndi) of Kansas City, MO; her son, John (Amanda) of New Canaan, CT; and her step-daughter, Jonal (Chuck) of Clifton VA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Jeff, Erin and Kyle (children of Mark); Heather, Holly and Hilary (children of John); and Jennifer and Mark (children of Jonal); Additional survivors are 11 great-grandchildren; and one more great-grandchild expected in February.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, at 1:00 pm at Wyatt Park Christian Church. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am on the same day at the church, where the family will greet and share memories with friends.
