• Her obituary was published. Janice Becraft (White), 81 of Rockville, MD passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023.
She was a devoted wife to the late Edward Lee Becraft for 39 years, a loving mother to Laura Becraft,
Mark Becraft and his wife Jyothi, and Shaun Becraft and his wife Danielle. She adored her
granddaughter, Jai Sri, along with all of her honorary grandchildren Joshua, Richard, Dana, Alex, Hope,
Venice and Charles. Janice was affectionately known as "Mom" or "Grandma" by everyone.
Janice was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and was the oldest of five children born to Otis Hensel and
Lois Annalee (Kidd) White. Her childhood was spent with her two surviving sisters, Anna Key-Ellis and
Connie White Lerch of Georgia and her two late brothers, Alfred Wayne White and Otis Hensel White, Jr.
Despite being born almost deaf, Janice's quality of life was never diminished. She enjoyed cooking,
getting together with family and friends, sewing, watching soap operas, and dedicating time to God. She
even taught herself to read lips in order to communicate better. While living in Rockville, she worked to
help support herself and her family as a tailor for J.C. Penney's and in the food service industry for
restaurants such as Bob's Big Boy and Hot Shoppes.
Janice's family would like to pay a special tribute and recognize the Settle family; especially her late Aunt
Shirley (Kidd) and her surviving husband, Uncle Don, for their unconditional love and support
throughout her and her family's lives.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Janice's life at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, MD on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. A visitation will be held from 10am-11am with a service at 11am. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, MD. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Janice, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html. Her family has been a donor of the research hospital for several years.
