Charles E. Becraft, 84, St. Joseph, died Friday, March 17, 2006 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, he was a resident of St. Joseph, since 1972. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Penn., and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1943. He then graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1950.

During World War II he served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945.

On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Edith Mae Heckert, who survives of the home. Mr. and Mrs. Becraft settled in Kansas City, Mo., where he worked in the insurance and banking fields. They then moved to St. Joseph, in 1972, when he worked as a trust officer at ...

1918-2008
Edith Becraft, 89, St. Joseph, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at a local health-care facility.
Mrs. Becraft was born May 5, 1918, in Massillon, Ohio.
While attending the University of Michigan, she met her future husband.
She married Charles Edward Becraft on Sept. 2, 1950. He preceded her in death March 17, 2006.
During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Prairie Village, Kan. In 1972, they moved to St. Joseph, where Edith assisted Charles with his legal practice for many years.
She retired from the Great Lakes Pipeline, where she was an executive secretary.
Mrs. Becraft was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, Runcie Club, Alpha Delta Pi sorority and American Association of University Women. She had many interests, including reading, sewing and playing bridge.
A loving wife and mother, Edith will be deeply missed along with her husband.
Mrs. Becraft also was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Pflug and Evelyn Walton (Fisher) Heckert; and brother, Robert E. Heckert.
Survivors: son, Robert W. Becraft; and sister-in-law, Jane Stingley, both of St. Joseph; two nephews, Mark Stingley, Lenexa, Kan.; and John Stingley, Connecticut.
There will be a private service under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Northwest Missouri chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
