From stories collected by Jim Luke Garrett and Ed Woliver of
Lee Co., VA, 1934; "They say that a tale is handed down that
Luke Garrett once lived in Ireland, having been born there. It
is said that he quarrelled with his mother, when he was very
young, possibly 13 or 14 over carrying some water and that he
hit his mother with a water piggin, and that she was getting
ready to whip him. When he ran away from home, going down to
the coast he was picked up by a ship, and kidnapped and brought
to American and bound out as a slave or apprentice for seven
years. He was either in Virginia or Pennsylvania. Sometimes
later, a brother of his, William, joined him in Pennsylvania."

Latimore Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, will of Jacob
Beals, dated 5 Jan 1812; Inventory filed 19 Feb 1813; Accounts
settled 17 Jan 1817; "Then I will and bequeath to my Eldest
sister Mary Garret and her son Luke Garret the sum of
seventy-five pounds." He appointed David Greist and Jacob
Kinerd? as executors.

Deed Book 38, Page 237, 1 Jan 1816, Frederick Co., VA; Mary
Garrett of Frederick Co., VA, gave her son Luke Garrett power
of attorney to receive from David Grist and Jacob Kyler her
share of $200 left her and her son Luke Garrott by Jacob Bales
"of the County of Adament."
