George Baycroft was a British soldier, fighting for King and Country at 17 years of age. During his military career, he served under bothWellington and Moor. He was at Nive, Niville, Vittoria and Corunna. He was not at the Battle of Waterloo, legend has it that he was left on homeduty at that time, and that he was so disgusted at this turn of fate that he sat down and cried. He was posted to Canada, and upon his discharge,was given a grant of land, 100 acres at L19, C9, Tecumseth Twp., in 1825. Her stone reads "A loving wife and kind parent, a native of Dover in Kent"
George and Elizabeth are buried in the cemetery to the east of the church, on the north side of the road.

General Notes: Husband - Colonel George Baycroft
Legend has it that his correct name was Beecroft, but, on his papers of discharge from the British Army, his name was spelled with "ay" rather than "ee", and to save time and fuss, he signed off as Baycroft. His older children did not accept this change, and continued to use Beecroft as their surname. The younger sons, Henry and Thomas, accepted the new spelling.
George's tombstone reads "Aged 75 years, 2 months, 28 days". If this is true, his date of passing should be 13th of October, or, his date of birth should be 1st of July.
George and Elizabeth are buried in the cemetery to the east of the church, on the north side of the road, at Newton-Robinson. (I have yet to visit the cemetery)
