• Her obituary was published. Mrs. Nellie M. (Kauffman) Freeman, 94, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville and formerly of Loop Road, South Mountain, PA, died Saturday morning, March 12, 2016, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born June 18, 1921 in South Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Terryl) Kauffman.
She and her husband, the late John W. Freeman, Sr., were married in July 1937. They lived in South Mountain all of their married life. Mr. Freeman died on December 5, 1987.
In her early life, Mrs. Freeman worked at Stanley Company, Chambersburg, as a seamstress and later at Burger King in Miami, FL. She later worked for the South Mountain Restoration Center, as a cook, for over 17 years. She retired in 1983.
Mrs. Freeman enjoyed the time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed children and was known in the area as a mother to everyone.
She is survived by four children, Muriel Becraft of South Mountain, Vera Tarman and her husband, Robert of South Mountain, LuAnn Uglow and her husband, Dennis of Chambersburg, and Larry Freeman and his fiancé, Wanda Nichols of South Mountain; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three children, John Freeman, Jr., Robert Freeman, and Darlene Witusik; four granddaughters, April Witusik, David Witusik, Karen Witusik, and Cindy Freeman; and one brother, Garnet Kauffman.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 16, 2016, in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, PA, with Rev. Dr. Mervil R. Stambaugh officiating.
There will be no public viewing.
