Mildred Becraft
On Wednesday, April 26, 2000, the Lord Jesus called and Mildred M. Becraft answered his call to come home. She had been a resident at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center for several weeks. She was born on April 28, 1919, in Middletown, Ohio, to Van C. and Mollie (Morrison) Tipton. Mildred was the granddaughter of J.B. and Amanda Morrison, founders of the Clayton Street Church of God, now Stratford Heights Church of God. At the age of 9, she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was 10 when she started singing in the Clayton Street Church choir. She loved to sing and play the piano in church and was a much requested soloist. On Aug. 2, 1935, she married Stephen Roe Becraft. In November 1943, for health reasons, they moved their young family to Tucson, Ariz., returning to Middletown in December 1979. Mrs. Becraft leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, Stephen R. of Middletown; two sons, Daniel R. of Middletown and Stephen J. (Sandra) of Upland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Danine Becraft of Tucson, Shawn R. Becraft of Middletown, Felicia Brown of Upland and David Becraft of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Trustin Brown of Upland and Stephanie Crandall of Tucson; and a very special friend, who was like the daughter she never had, Cathy (Tony) Shepherd of Trenton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Van and Mollie Tipton; her stepmother, Gertrude (Hendricks) Tipton; two brothers, Lloyd and William Tipton; a sister, Wanda Tipton; and an aunt, who was like an older sister all her life, Goldie Marie Morrison McGee.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be on Monday, May 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elk Creek Cemetery.
