He came with the family to Newton in the year 1876 where the family settled on a farm one and a half miles west of Newton on 12th street.
He was married to Ida E. Boyd on June 21, 1887. To this union were born six daughters and a son. They are; Mrs. Dot Walton of Newton; Mrs. Ruby Hickerson of Newton, Mrs. Ida Virginia Weber of Salina, Mrs. Mayme Bell of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs Ellen Sutorius of Newton and Miss. Marie Tourtillott and Boyd Tourtillott at home. A son died in infancy.
There are three sisters, Sarah, Lina, and Mrs.Mamie Toevs, all of newton; one brother, W. B. Tourtillott of Topeka and nine grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Tourtillott operated a dairy for fifteen years on their farm west of Newton. Later they operated a hotel known as the City hotel which was destroyed in the fire of 1914. They later operated a restaurant on west Fifth street.
In 1917 Mr. Tourtillott became a member of the firm of the Sutorius Baking Company. He was very active in business until 5 years ago when he became partially disabled. The past two years he had been confined to his bed most of the time.
