• Military: Toronto Telegram, Feb 1941. Major George W. Beecroft has been promoted to lieutenant-colonel and now commands No. 2 Army Field Workshop, RCOC, with the Canadian Corps in England.
Major Beecroft succeeds Lieut.-Colonel H. G. Thompson, D.F.C., who recently was invalided home form England. The new commanding officer was born in Lindsay in 1898 and was graduated in 1923 from the University of Toronto in applied science and engineering. He has done important work overseas. No. 2 workshop has served as the laboratory where many of the ideas of the Corps Commandant, Lt.-Gen. A. G. L. McNaughton and his staff, have been developed.
Colonel Beecroft served in France in the last Great War with the 3rd Pioneers and the 8th Canadian Engineers. He was wounded. After demobilization he spent several months in Davisville Military Hospital, and in 1919 entered the University of Toronto.
