AUCKLAND, November 22.
The death occurred suddenly in Auckland Hospital of Constable William Claude Beecroft, a well-known and popular member of the Police Force in Auckland. He had been a patient in the hospital since last Friday week, and was making a good recovery after an operation. This afternoon, when visited by fellow constables, he appeared to be in good health, but shortly after 6 o'clock, while partaking of a meal, he collapsed and died.
Born in Christchurch 39 years ago, Constable Beecroft was educated at Addington School. When only 17 years of age he went overseas and saw war service in France, where he gained the rank of sergeant. On his return from the war he served with the Police Force in Christchurch, Dunedin, and Timaru, and for the past few years in Auckland.
