Anticipating that Monmouth County will show a population of at least 100,000 by the census returns, and that it will thus come under the law requiring the creation of the office of register of deeds, the Democrats have put a candidate in the field in the person of Wilbert A. Beecroft. No Republican candidate has filed a petition, and some Democrats take this to mean that the G.O.P. leaders have acquired inside knowledge as to Monmouth County's population to the effect that it has not yet reached the 100,000 point.

Wilbert A. Beecroft, who was elected sheriff of Monmouth County November 7, is a native of Mercer County. He was born in Yardville in 1859 and is the son of the late Jacob Beecroft. Wilbert was educated at the old Trenton Academy and went to Monmouth County about thirty years ago.

For the past twenty-five years he has been active in politics as a staunch Democrat. He is a member of the firm of McCue & Beecroft which conducts ?libery? stables at Seabright, Allenhurst and Lakewood. He resides at Oakhurst. He was a member of the Assembly in 1908.

• His obituary was published. Former Monmouth County Sheriff. He was one of the Democratic "old guard" and served in the Assembly in 1908. He had been in the livery business at various times in Allenhurst, Sea Bright and Lakewood.

He was sheriff in Monmouth County in 1912 and served the usual term of three years. He maintained an active interest in political affairs of the county for several years after he left office.

For many years he engaged in the business of carriage manufacturing and livery and boarding stables. As secretary and treasurer of the firm of McCue and Beecroft company he conducted one of the largest livery and boarding stables in the State.

He was educated at the public school of Crosswicks and the Trenton Academy. He was a member of the Board of Freeholders in Monmouth for one term, 1906. In 1884, he was assistant to Henry D. Winton, clerk of the House of Assembly and in 1890-91 he was assistant bill clerk of the House.
