Events

• Event: Joseph's Journal Entry, 7 Jan 1846. January 1846

January, Wed. 7th, 1846. About half-past 12 p.m. my sister Sarah died after suffering much from dropsy. Her illness began September, 7th, 1845. I preached to her the Gospel which she had heard before and which she had defended as being true from the time she heard it, to her death.
While ill she desired Elder Miller to attend the ordinance of laying on of hands, which after being anointed by my wife, it was attended to, and marvelous was the effect produced. She sang delightfully and ate her food with a good relish and this continued from Saturday till Monday, during Saturday night I stayed up with her she slept all night soundly a thing which she had not done before. But the more she seemed to mend and the more my Mother and my sisters Mary Ann, Meria and Allice raged and on one occasion when my wife was about to go upstairs to annoint and comfort my
sister, Sister Mary Ann stopped her and declared she would push her head across downstairs. Amos Tyson, a General Baptist, who visited my sister since then has told many a pious lie in order to injure the work.
