He was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 77 in Belvidere



BELIVDERE - Robert J. Beecroft, 80, of Belvidere and formerly of Algonquin, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at his home.

He was born July 31, 1927, in Chicago, to Walter and Anna (Hierz) Beecroft.

He had been a longtime resident of Algonquin and had lived the past four years in Belvidere. He was employed as a bricklayer for many years and then continued working part time as a security guard for a local gravel pit.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a medic. He loved gardening, playing cards, and playing slot machines.

He was a member of American Legion Post 77 in Belvidere and a former member of American Legion Post 1231 in Lake in the Hills.

Survivors include five children, Linda (Tom) Netzel of Poplar Grove, Laura Taylor of Sharon, Wis., Donna Beecroft of Algonquin, Paul Beecroft of Algonquin and John Beecroft of Forest Park; five grandsons, Erik and Brandon Taylor, Daniel and Jared Netzel and Sam "Jake" Botts; a sister, Nancy Beecroft of California; a brother, William Beecroft of Algonquin; and a half sister, Gloria Murray of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert W. Beecroft; his former wife, Dorothy Anderson; and a brother, James Beecroft.

The memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Route 31, Algonquin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post in either Algonquin or Belvidere.

Dorothy "Dottie" Anderson, 72, Sharon, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at her home.

She was born in Chicago June 2, 1931, the daughter of Stanley and Jean Jakubiec Sliwa.

She married Walter Anderson April 4, 1970, in Elgin, Ill.

She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Sharon.

She is survived by her husband; eight children, Linda Netzel, Poplar Grove, Ill., Laura Taylor, Sharon, Donna Beecroft and Paul Beecroft, Algonquin, Ill., John Beecroft, Forest Park, Ill., Kate Eichberger, Crystal Lake, Ill., Barbara Insalaco, Elgin, and Bruce Anderson, Belvidere, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Joan Brandt, Sharon. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Beecroft.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sharon Township. Toynton's Sharon Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
