Funeral services were held Monday for Herbert Hayes Whiting, 73, of 303 Bachman Ave., a retired Westinghouse machinist and former member of Los Gatos Volunteer Fire Department, who died Friday at a local hospital of natural causes.
Rites were at Chapel of the Hills followed by interment in Los Gatos Memorial Park.
Whiting was born on March 27, 1899 in Coalinga and he moved with is family to Fellows before coming to Santa Clara County in 1920 and he lived at his Bachman home for 52 years.
For the past 19 years, Whiting was employed at Westinghouse Corp's Sunnyvale headquarters whree he was an active in Machinist Union Local 565.
He was named in 1965 chairman of Los Gatos Taxpayers' Assn. nominating committee, an anti-ta group.
Survivors are his wife, Myrtle B. Whiting; a son, George F. Whiting of Carson; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Warren of Palo Alto, Mrs. Gladys Taylor of Sonora, Mrs. Lucille Maxwell of Richmond and Mrs. Opal Wood of Burlingame, and there brothers, Ellis E. Whiting of Bakersfield, Glenn Whiting of Reno, Nev., and Oliver Whiting of Sonora.

SALEM, Or., June 10. --(SPECIAL)-- Commencement exercises for the Salem high school were held here tonight, with 118 graduates receiving diplomas. The address was delivered by J. H. Ackerman, president of the Oregon Normal school and the diplomas were presented by W. C. Winslow, chairman of the Salem school board.
