---
Alleged Manslaughter.
----
On Sunday, a fish-curer, named T. Perry was arrested by the Hull Police on a charge of manslaughter. On Saturday P.C. Thompson was on dut at the corner of Hesale-road and Waverley-street, when he heard someone about "Look out, or else you'll run over the old woman." The officer looked down Hessle-road and saw Maria Kennington, widow, 85 years of age, crossing the carriage way. There were two men in a cart coming toward her, and when Thompson first observed it it was only two three or yards from the woman. Almost immediately the pony knocked the woman down. She fell underneath the cart just as the officer seized the horse's head. He found Perry drunk. He was taken into custody on a charge of being drunk in charge of a horse and cart, and while he was being taken to the Police-station by P.C. Whileyman, Mrs. Kennington was conveyed to the Infirmary by Thompson. She was attended by Dr. Greaves, who found that the woman had sustained a scalp wound, concussion of the brain, and that she was in a dangerous condition. She died at a quarter-pat five o'clock on Sunday morning. In the afternoon Perry, who had been out on bail, was again arrested by Thompson. When cautioned at his house, he said: "It was really an accident, policeman." At the Police-station he was formally charge with the manslaughter of the woman, but made no further statement. He was brought before a magistrate on Monday, and remanded for eight days.
