John Brian Beecroft "Jack" passed away quietly at his home after a long illness the morning of January 29, 2018. He was born in Stillwater on September 18, 1924 to John Arthur and Hazel (Conner) Beecroft.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Christensen) Beecroft in 2015. They married October 10, 1947 and rented a home in Schaghticoke on Weir Farm where they lived until he bought the land where he was currently residing on Route 40. He lived his entire life in the Rensselaer, Saratoga and Washington County area.
He is survived by a daughter Diana Joy Gurri, Tyron, North Carolina, a son David Bruce Beecroft, Easton; four grandchildren, Kristen (Ed Hoover), Catherine (Matt McCauley), Brian (Rebecca) and Adam, three great grandchildren, Quinn, Colin, Catherine; his sister, Hope Grogan and by many nieces and nephews.
During World War II he served from February 1943 through January 1945 in the Marine Air Corps as an aircraft armorer and mustered out as a corporal after serving in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.
After WWII he started in the Pulp Wood Business cutting for the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Mill.
In 1949 Jack established Beecroft's Gun Shop specializing in custom ammunition, reloading equipment, firearms and gun repair. In 1990 Jack and son David started the outdoor wood furnace business as a dealer for Central Boiler. The business grew into the second largest dealership in the US and Canada. He completely retired from the business in 2012 leaving David to carry on the family business.
While he was growing the gun business, he worked other jobs including in the steel mill and on the B&M Railroad where he was a trainman/brakeman and although he was not fond of heights, he would walk across the top of moving railroad cars to set the brakes.
Jack enjoyed hunting, the shooting sports and was an Adirondack 46er #1117.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:30-11:00am on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. A service will follow with burial in the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors.

Paul Christensen
LANSINGBURGH - Paul Henry Christensen, 79, of Seventh Avenue, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a short illness.
Born in Troy, Mr. Christensen was educated in Lansingburgh schools.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Christensen worked for the New York state Thruway Authority for 16 years, retiring in 1987 as a store room clerk. Previously, he worked in the shipping department of the Watervliet Arsenal for 15 years. He was a machinist for the Ludlow Valve, Ross Valve and the Rensselaer Vale companies prior to that time.
Mr. Christensen was a member of the Danish Brotherhood in Troy.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Samia Christensen; a son, Daniel P. Christensen of Lansingburgh; a daughter, May Beth Thompson of Lansingburgh; four sisters, Gertrude Marble of Lansingburgh, Betty Smith of Oregon, Barbara Beecroft of Schaghticoke and Beverly Qua of Salem; and five grandchildren.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, 115th Street and Fourth Avenue.
Calling hours will be from 4 this afternoon until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.

SCHAGHTICOKE - Barbara Christensen Beecroft, 89, of Schaghticoke, NY passed away on May 28, 2015.
She was the 10th child of the late Vego and Anna (Howe) Christensen both from Denmark.
Barbara was born at home on Aug 28. 1926 in the neighborhood of Lansingburgh in Troy, NY.
During the second world war Barbara took a wartime factory job while four of her older brothers served in active combat. Because of her tiny hands and nimble fingers she could wire harnesses in the aircraft assembly line.
She met and married John after the war and they remained on their property in Washington county the rest of her life.
She was an immaculate housekeeper, great cook, creative gardener, and a supportive protective mother to her children.
She was always reading, learning and sharing.
Burial will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
