Death of John Becroft
John Becroft, a well known resident of this place, died at his home at
seven o'clock Monday morning, February 3d, 1913, aged 77 years and 5 days.
He was taken ill of grip six weeks before and his death was caused kidney
trouble. The funeral service was held at his late home at one o'clock
Wednesday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. H.M.
Evans, assisted by Rev. Dr. Coleman. A large American flag draped the
casket. The pall bearers were civil war veterans--Rev. Jacob Ruble, Wm.
Carson, James Chaney, Reuben Sanders, W.F. Whitham, James Grimes. Interment
in West Alexander Cemetery.
The deceased was born near Taylorstown, Jan. 29, 1836, son of George and
Mary Bearly Becroft, his mother being a sister of Squire Bearly, who was a
prominent resident of Claysville in his day. He enlisted from service in
the civil war in Co. I First Pennsylvania cavalry. For a number of years he
was a member of Patterson Jobes Post No. 555 G.A.R. of Claysville, and was a
member at the time of his death. On Feb. 13, 1866, he was united in
marriage with Miss Mary Meadsker, of Allegheny. They have since resided in
Washington county, mostly in this section, and made their home in
Claysville, several years before coming to this place three years ago. He
was formerly a member of the Claysville Presbyterian church, but more
recently he has been connected with the West Alexander Presbyterian church.
Besides his wife he leaves three daughters and one son--Mrs. John Sonda, of
McGraw's Run; Mrs. James Anderson, of near West Alexander; Miss Laura
Becroft, superintendent of the nurse training department of Minnequa
hospital, Pueblo, Col., and Harry Becroft, of Triadelphia. There is one
brother, Charles Becroft.

Mrs. Mary A. Beaucroft, in her 86th year, died at 6 a.m. yesterday, at her home at West Alexander. She was the widow of John Beaucroft. SHe is survived by these children; Harry Beaucroft, of Elm Grove, . Va., Mrs. J.C. Sonda, Mrs. James Anderson and Miss Laura E Beaucroft, of West Alexander. The daughter, Miss Laura E. Beaucroft, is a well known nurse, having been in war service in France during the war. John Armstrong, of Steubenvill, O., is a step-brother. Mrs. Beaucroft was a member of the Presbyterian church of West Alexander. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 o'clock at her late home. The interment will be at West Alexander.
