BARRON -- Funeral services for Matthew Matthys, 77, Rt. 2, Barron, who died Oct. 14 at Barron Hospital, were held last Friday at the Rausch-Rockman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lowell Reykdal officiating.
Burial was in Wayside Cemetery.
Mr. Matthys was born Nov. 29, 1891 in North Freedom, Wis., and moved to Barron County as a child in 1900.
He married Jane Beecroft at Almena Feb. 25, 1913.
They lived on a farm north of Almena until 1948 when they moved to a farm in the Town of Barron.
Mr. Matthys was a member of the Modern Woodsmen, the Turtle Lake Masonic Lodge, Consistory and Eastern Star, was a past master of the Turtle Lake Lodge, member of the Hay River school board and the Clinton Town Board, and a member of the Barron County Co-op Dairy Cattle Breeders Sales Association.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Allen Michelson, Almena, Mrs. Malcom Hanson, New Auburn, Mrs. Jean Odden, Barron, and Mrs. Wayne Hansom, Minneapollis; three sons, Morris, of Cumberland, Robert, Almena, and Wayne, Barron; 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, August, of Troy, Idaho, and Walter, Barron; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Wood, Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Alvina Pyle, Longview, Wash.
