FATAL ACCIDENT
On Tuesday evening an accident, which proved fatal, occurred to Thomas Heward, on the Pillmoor branch of the North-Eastern Railway. Deceased resided in a cottage near to Hall Park, Knaresborough, adjoining the line of the railway to Pillmoor, and had for some years been working for the Company as a platelayer. It appears Heward had been engaged cutting grass on the line side, and returning home felt tired and sat on the metals and, not getting out of the way in time for the passing of the six o'clock train from Pillmoor, was knocked down, the injuries being so serious as to cause his death at half-past 12 o'clock on Wednesday moring. At the inquest the evidence satisfied the jury that death was accidental, and they returned a verdict accordingly.
