Emily Smith Wed to Owen L. Martin in Home Ceremony
Miss Emily L. Smith, daughter of Mrs. Gordon Smith, 606 Park Place, Mechanicville, became the bride of Owen L. Martin, son of Mr and Mrs. Lewis Martin, Schaghticoke, at the bride's home Sunday Oct. 20, at 3 p.m. Rev. Frederick G. MacKenzie, pastor of the First Methodist Church, performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Beecroft of Schaghticoke, sister and brother-in-law of the bride were the attending.
The bride was gowned in white taffota and net and she carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. The matron of honor wore a gown of dusty pink faille and carried pink chrysanthemums. Robert Smith, brother of the bride, played the wedding music. A reception followed the cremony for relatives and a few friends. On their return from a wedding trip in Northern New York, Mr. and Mrs. Martin will reside in Schaghticoke.
.• Her obituary was published. Beecroft, Hilda May MECHANICVILLE Hilda May Beecroft, 88, died peacefully at her home, Tuesday, September 24, 2013. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born May 28, 1925, daughter of the late Gordon and Louise Smith. Hilda was a 1943 graduate of Mechanicville High School. She retired from the NYS Dept. of Tax and Finance in September 1990. She was a member of the Mechanicville United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1962 and her siblings, Frances McEchron, Eleanor Smith, Emily Martin, Katherine Vincent, Marion Steele, Robert, Kenneth and Gordon "Bud" Smith; along with her devoted friend of over 40 years, Warren Verbeck. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Beecroft; along with many nieces, nephews and their families; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Smith of Fonda. Hilda's daughter would like to thank Carolyn Aldrich, her mother's friend for 84 years, for her devotion and unconditional love for Hilda, and also for her compassion and strength in helping her mother and Susan during Hilda's struggle with dementia. She would also like to thank all of her relatives who stood by both Hilda and Susan during this time as well. Additional thanks go to Dr. Freshteh Salehi for her support and care of Hilda through the years, and to the PCU nurses a Seton Health for their guidance and support for Susan over these past five years. To Accent Health Care and the aides that took care of Hilda so well; and to Community Hospice of Rensselaer for their support and compassion to both Hilda and Susan in her last few days. Susan especially wants to thank Jean Endryck, NP: director of Seton Health Palliative Care for the empathy and wonderful care that she gave Hilda in the last two years of her life. Seton Health should be proud to have such a dedicated and caring nurse as Jean. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Friday from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Seton Health Palliative Care, 1300 Massachusetts Ave., Troy, NY 12180 in Hilda's memory.
