Mr. Beecroft was sixty-eight years old. He had been a president of the Society of Automotive Engineers, and was recognized as a pioneer in the automobile industry. Since 1928 he had been with the Bendix Corporation.

He had been editor of the Automotive Review, editorial director of Motor Age, Motor World, Automotive Industries. He was for years a member of the contest board of the American Automobile Association and founded the Automobile Old Timers, Inc. He was a charter member of the Chicago Motor Club.

Mr. Beecroft lectured and wrote widely for technical and popular publications. He was a directing influence in basic designing of cars, and advocated engines in the rear in the revamped car of the future.

Both he and Mrs. Beecroft, who died two years ago, were active in the Scarsdale Congregational Church, where Mr. Beecroft was a deacon. • Event: The Scarsdale Inquirer, 17 Mar 1944. Hold Auction of Estate of the David Beecrofts

Unrestricted auction sale of the estate of the late David Beecroft is announced for next Monday, from 10:30 to 4 o'clock. The exhibition is set for Sunday, March 19, afternoon from 2 to 5 o'clock, on the premises, 19 Drake Road. The auctioneer will be O. Rundle Gilbert, well known to Scarsdale auction frequenters.

Mrs. Beecroft, a former officer of the Woman's Club and leader in the Daughters of the British Empire, was a well known figure in the village, and Mr. Beecroft was an automobile inventor and executive. Their collection of china is particularly notable and contains pieces not available since the war. The usual complete furnishings of their former home have been made unusually desirable by war conditions.

If Scarsdale upholds its reputation as to auctions, this one should be well attended.
