• Biography: David Leslie Briggs was born at Whitby Township, east of Myrtle, on June 30, 1848. About 1873 he went into partnership with David A. Brown in a general store at Myrtle, called Brown & Briggs. After the store burned down in 1889, he went into business in Toronto with his brother Sylvester at Steele-Briggs Seed Company. About 1914 he moved to Los Angeles, California where he died on November 16, 1927.

• Biography: Annie Beecroft was born at Greenbank, Canada West, in 1860 and was married in 1879 to David Leslie Briggs, a storekeeper in Myrtle. She learned music from Professor Wyatt of Brooklin and became a music teacher. She moved to Toronto with her husband after his store burned at Myrtle in 1889 and some years later lost her hearing. She was editor of the Canadian Ladies' Home Journal and a contributor of articles to "Progress" and other magazines. She began wintering in Los Angeles, California after she lost her hearing, and her husband joined her there permanently about 1914. She became a member of the California Women's Press Club and won the club's first prize for three years in succession for the best one-act play. She assisted prisoners in the California jails as well as their families and was able to get pardons and reprieves for some of them. She corresponded with former U.S. presidents including Woodrow Wilson, and toured Europe where she met Bernard Shaw. She was a frequent letter writer to newspaper editors. Mrs. Briggs died at California in September 1949.
