Obituary
BEECROFT, Alvary (Al) William Was born in Toronto, Ontario, on February 14, 1921, and passed away in Victoria, B.C. January 22, 2012. Al was an honor's graduate of the University of Toronto, and Chief Chemist of Rolph Clark Stone, Lithographers in Toronto until he retired. Al was happy to share his extensive knowledge of the chemistry of inks and papers to the many artist-printmakers who were fortunate to know him. In 1997 he moved with his second wife, Jo Manning, to Victoria, where he was a champion duplicate bridge player in senior's centers. Predeceased by his first wife, Hazel Henry Beecroft, he is survived by wife Jo, his son David Beecroft, and his stepchildren Paul, Peter, Ann and Mary Rothfels as well as nine step-grandchildren. Donations in Al's memory may be made to the Greater Victoria Public Library Talking Books. 647310

JO MANNING 1923 - 2022 With a gentle and welcome medical assist, on Thursday, January 6, 2022, artist and author Jo Manning died in Victoria BC, at the age of 98. Predeceased by her parents Dr. Frederick Manning and Elizabeth Wilcox; her two husbands Klaus Rothfels and Alvary Beecroft and by her first-born son Paul Rothfels (Margaret). Survived by her brother Tom Manning and sister-in-law Jean; her children Peter, Ann and Mary Rothfels (Al); by her nephew and niece Steve (Sheryl) and Liza Manning (children Ben and Kailey); her grandchildren Carl (Cathy), Colin, David, Gabe, Laura (Tom), Lee (Nate), Marty (Tati), Michael, and Sean (Natasha); and five great-grandchildren. Jo was a printmaker and painter of national renown, recognized for her exquisitely detailed etchings, for which she also received international attention, and for her watercolours and oils of grass, trees and fence posts. Her feisty and trailblazing spirit will be greatly missed.
