• His obituary was published in the Euroa Advertiser on 20 Dec 1901. Obituary.
There is no shock that is so great as the sudden death of a person apparently in good health, hence when the news spread round of the sudden decease of Mrs. Pratt, snr., the impression created was a painful one. Mrs. Pratt had been vistiting Mrs. Beecroft, an old acquaintance at Longwood, and on Tueday evening, where with others in attendance on a sick son of Mrs. Becroft's, was suddenly seized with a pain over the region of her heart, and, becoming worse, died about fifteen minutes afterwards, despite unavailing efforts of help from her friends. The blow was a painful one to her friends, but they lost no time in telegraphing the sad news to Mrs. Pratt's children at Euroa, who started for Longwood at the earliest possible moment, not quite anticipating that their mother was dead. The deceased lady had intended to return to Euroa on Wednesday, hence her unexpected death was more severely felt.
About the same time and in the same night saw Mrs. Prat's decease, Mrs. Becroft's eldest son, William, was dying from consumption, and he passed away about midnight. Distressed, indeed, must have been that household on that sad night. His mother was in Melbourne when dearth took place, but she and his wife were telegraphed for. Deceased had been ailing occasionally for a year or two, but passed through a severe illness, from which he never properly recovered. As he had been living in Melbourne, it was thought, that a change at his mothers residence could restore his health, but it failed to do so. Deceased was about 43 years of age, and was an employee of the Melbourne Tramway Co. He leaves a wildow and family of four children, at present residing in Melbourne. The remains were interred in the Longwood cemetery, the Rev. P. Edwards officiating at the grave side. The funeral cortege was a mark of respect to Mr. Becroft's well-known relatives. The mortuary arrangements were ably conducted by Mr. J. M. Grant.
