• Biography: Jack was a steam engineer. First training as a fireman /greaser on the SS Awaroa which was on the Dargaville Kaipara run, Helensville, from 15 April 1905 to 16 Nov 1906.
He then obtained a River engineers Certificate, and became an engineer and for a time on the Baroona run from the Kaipara to Tasmania. (unverified)
When the Kaipara Dairy Factory opened he was steam engineer untill he retired.
Jack owned a very small launch called the 'Pea' ,and when entered in the Kaipara Regatta races always started off first. It was about 22 feet long and was moored near the old Railway Station. South of the town.
Jack and Vi ran the Star) Theatre (movie)
They never had a car and walked everywhere.
