Daughter of Theodore Francis Becroft and Elizabeth Lillian Conarty (of Irish descent), Hazel married Franz Rudolph Prosl on March 17, 1938 in Elkton, Cecil, Maryland. They had three children: Frank Rudolf Prosl Jr, Theodore Gregor Prosl and Elizabeth Prosl (Salsedo).

Hazel was a bookkeeper, private secretary, wife and mother. She was named for her the daughter of Silas Weldon Becroft, her great uncle.
