Wayne H. Becraft, 79, of Rushville, passed away March 24, 2010 at Rush Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 22, 1931 in Ogden, he was the son of Harley and Dorothy (McCorkle) Becraft, both deceased. He married Dorothy Safewright May 10, 1952; she preceded him in death Sept. 18, 2005.

Mr. Becraft served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 to 1954 as a PFC. in the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Ribbon, Korean Service Ribbon, and United Nations Service Ribbon. He retired from International/Schnadig Furniture Company after 40 years of service. He then retired from the Rush County Sheriff's Department as a jailer, working there from 1988 to 1996. His memberships included First Baptist Church, Indiana Sheriff's Association, former Rush County Roadrunners and he was a Cub League and Little League coach several years.

Survivors include son, Richard (Phyllis) Becraft of Mitchell; daughter, Beth (Doug) Jarman of Rushville; former daughter-in-law, Janet Craig of New Castle; brother, Ralph (Donna); and six grandchildren. He also is survived by his special companion, Gloria Bunch of Rushville.

Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by son Michael, three brothers and three sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Phil Mitchell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in East Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Safewright Becraft, 71, of Rushville, died Sunday, September 18, at Lincoln Center East, Connersville. She was born April 19, 1934, in Rushville, daughter of the late Sherman and Edna (Palmer) Safewright.

Mrs. Becraft retired as a court administrator of the Rush Circuit Court after 21 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rushville and The Rushville Roadrunners.

She married Wayne Becraft May 10, 1952, and he survives. Also surviving are daughter Beth (husband Doug) Jarman of Rushville; two sons, Richard (wife Phyllis) Becraft of Mitchell and Michael (wife Janet) Becraft of Knightstown; a brother, Sherman Safewright of Greensburg; two sisters, Frances Norris of Rushville and Pearl Casey of Shelbyville; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Becraft was preceded in death by nine brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at Todd Funeral Home, Rushville, Thursday, September 22, at 10 a.m., with Pastor James Ranard officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery, Rushville.

Visitation was held Wednesday, September 21, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
