• His obituary was published. Edward John Sheets, age 82, of Mishawaka, passed away on April 19, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He lived all his life in Mishawaka. He was born in Mishawaka to John and Mary (Zircher) Sheets on August 3, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He married Sherry Becraft on April 18, 1959 in Mishawaka. She survives. Ed is also survived by three sons: John (Ruth) of Minnesota, Steve (Christie) of Ohio and Tony (Robyn) of Ohio. He was a loving grandpa to 7 grandchildren: Joshua, Jacob, Hannah, Matthew, Trevor, Leah and Mark.
He graduated from Madison Township High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955.
Ed was a longtime member of 4-H, Rural Youth, Tamarack Grange, Goshen Farm Toy Collectors Club, Farm Bureau and Lions. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mishawaka.
Ed was a lifelong farmer, but his first job was at the Mishawaka Farmer's Dairy at the age of 17. When the Mishawaka Farmer's Dairy closed, he went on to work for several other local dairies before beginning a long career driving a school bus for Penn-Harris-Madison Schools. He retired in 2004 from a job he truly enjoyed.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at 1 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday April 23, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home in Mishawaka, with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ed's honor to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
He was an entertaining story teller. His humor and his warm and loving heart will be sorely missed.

Sherry was born in Mishawaka on September 18, 1938 to the late Commodore and Margaret (Weinkauf) Becraft. She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School.
On April 18, 1959, Sherry married Edward J. Sheets. He preceded her in death in 2018 and her brothers, Franklin and Joseph Becraft also preceded her in death.
Sherry is survived by her three children, John (Ruth) of Minnesota, Steve of Ohio, and Tony (Robyn) of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Allison), Jacob, Hannah, Matthew, Trevor, Leah and Mark; a sister, Kathleen Fozo; and a sister-in-law, Joyce (Russ) Overby.
Sherry was employed as a Teacher's Aide at Madison Elementary School. Before marriage she worked at Dodge Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Sherry was a long-time member of TOPS. She enjoyed baking Christmas cookies and going to the Blue Chip Casino. At one time Sherry and Ed enjoyed playing Euchre in a card club.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 pm on Thursday, June 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 2:15 pm on Thursday at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
