• His obituary was published in The Times on 5 Jan 1961. James C. Gamber, 74, formerly of the Gamber vicinity, who
resided in the Mt. Airy area for the past five years, died Tuesday,
Dec. 27, 1960, at 1 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Rachel A. Gamber. A son of
the late George W. and Christie Gamber, he was born in Carroll
County.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Frances A. Cassell, Hagerstown;
Mrs. Erma de Lawder, Harrisonburg, Va., and
James A. Gamber, Ellicott City; two foster children, James
H. Johnson, Glyndon, and John T. Johnson, Westminster; four
sisters, Mrs. Viola Norwood and Mrs. Ella M. Becraft, both of
Mt. Airy; Mrs. Minnie Murray, Hampstead, and Mrs. Ethel V.
East, Hollywood, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Waltz Funeral Home, Winfield,
Friday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Taylorsville Cemetery.
