Wendell Becraft passed away in his sleep on July 21, 2001, in his home in Portland, TX.
He was a native of Frenchburg, KY, the eldest child of G.I. and Clora Becraft, and a member of the 1934 graduating class of Frenchburg High School. He attended Berea and Morehead colleges and taught in the Menifee County schools for a number of years.
He married Virginia Lee Williams, daughter of Charles and Celia Mae Williams. Virginia graduated from Frenchburg High School in 1940 and they were married in the Presbyterian Church immediately following the Baccalaureate sermon. They soon moved to Ohio where Wendell worked during WWII as a machinist. Near the end of the war he joined the Pennsylvania Railroad as a train dispatcher and continued with the railroad for thirty-six years after which he retired and the family moved to Portland, TX. There they enjoyed their retirement in the pleasant Gulf climate. Wendell was able to continue golf until a few years ago and since became an avid internet bridge player playing with partners and opponents from around the world.
Wendell is survived by Virginia, his wife of 61 years, and children, Marcus Irvin Becraft and Wendellyn Sue Becraft of Portland, TX, Daniel Wesley Becraft of Corpus Christi, TX, grandson Eric Daniel Becraft of Corpus Christi, and brothers Irvin Waldo Becraft of San Manuel, AZ and Willard Randell Becraft of La Jolla, CA.

Virginia BecraftPortland, TXVirginia Becraft of Portland, Texas, died November 19, 2012 after a long illness. She was 91 years old. She was born in Kentucky to Charles and Celia Williams, the fifth of their seven children. During her younger years, Virginia, a member of the Southern Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, wrote and directed a Christmas play, and was selected for various other Church duties in Kentucky and Ohio.She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Becraft and is survived by their three children, Marcus and Wendellyn of Portland, Texas and Daniel, of Ingleside, Texas, one grandson, Eric Becraft who is a post graduate PhD student at Montana State University, and one brother, James Williams of Lexington, Kentucky.Services will be private.Arrangements entrusted to Limbaugh Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Dr., Portland, Texas, 361-643-6564.
