Obituary

Norman A. "Jake" Becraft Jr., 83, of Woodbine, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1929, in Woodbine, he was the son of the late Norman A. Becraft Sr. and the late Pearl V. Greene Becraft. He was the husband of Dorothy M. Morgan Becraft, his wife of 66 years.

He was the founder and previous owner of Woodbine Auto Repair and Woodbine Towing. He enjoyed NASCAR, wrestling, watching Joel Osteen, dog sitting and spending time with all of his daughters.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Joyce Hawkins, of New Martinsville, W.Va., Kathie and husband David Lauer, of Daina Beach, Fla., Jackie Hoover, of Woodbine, and Dorothy "Bess" and Robert "Chip" Bean, of New Windsor; grandchildren Josh and Adam Frey, Patricia Hayes, Aelisha Thompson, Tammy and Jesse Hawkins, Ashley Mulloy, Gennis Halmi and Garrett Bean; a nephew, Brian Wolfe; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Jean Frey.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial service, 11 a.m. Saturday, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

Born on February 4, 1931 in Rockland County, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Earl and Matilda Frances Morgan. She was preceded in death by husband Norman Eugene Becraft "Jake" and their oldest daughter Laura Jean Frey "Jeanne".
Mrs. Becraft lived in various places beginning in Congers, NY and then later moved with her family to Baltimore, MD then Taylorsville, MD after marrying "Jake" she moved to Woodbine.
Dorothy was the last surviving sibling of twelve in the Morgan Family and was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are her loving daughters Joyce Hawkins, Kathie Becraft, Jackie Hoover, Dorothy "Bess" Bean and husband Robert"Chip" numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, including dear niece, Betty Hartle, who was her lifelong best friend. She will be missed by many.
She loved spending time with her family, preparing large family dinners, playing rummy, puzzles, board games, watching Baltimore Ravens games and occasional day trips to Charlestown Races and Casino with her daughter Jackie. Her favorite past time activities included seamstress work, gardening and crocheting.
Although she spent most of her retirement bookkeeping for her late husband's business, Woodbine Towing, she began her career at Mt. Airy Pants Sewing Co. as a seamstress followed by C. R. Daniels working with textile fabrics and eventually working and retiring from General Electric as an appliance assembler.
A private memorial service will be held at a late date. Miss Dorothy May Morgan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Morgan, Taylorsville, MD celebrated her 16th birthday Tues., by marrying Norman Albert Becraft, Jr. 17-year-old Woodbine, MD, garage worker. Becraft is a son of Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Becraft, Sr., of Woodbine.

The ceremony was performed in the parsonage of St. James Lutheran church at 11:20 o'clock Tues. morning by the Rev. Dr. Ralph R. Gresh, pastor of the church. The single ring ceremony was employed. The wedding was witnessed by members of the immediate family.

Miss Morgan, who applied for the license while still 15, is the youngest girl to be married in the county in some time. The couple secured a marriage license at the office of the clerk of the courts here this morning.
