September 19, 2008

She was born on March 19, 1927, in Utica, a daughter of the late Clifford and Evelyn M. Cavanaugh Becraft. She graduated from UFA. Nancy married Charles Stafford on February 20, 1960 and he died on October 12, 1972. She then married Walter B. White on October 1, 1977, in Kirkland and he died on October 10, 1993. Nancy worked essentially her whole life; she began working for the Homestead Savings and Loan, and then took a position as a reservationist for Mohawk Airlines at Oneida County Airport. She continued as a reservationist through several mergers and acquisitions when Mohawk became Alleghany Airlines and ultimately US Airways. When US Airways stopped operations at Oneida County, she took a position with them in Syracuse. She loved her job and the 5 am drive to Syracuse through snow storms, inclement weather never fazed her.

Upon her retirement she was hired to work in the SATO Travel Office providing reservation service to military and government officials at Griffiss Air Base. She retired from SATO in 2001.

Nancy loved golf and was a member of the Skenandoa Country Club in Clinton. In addition she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. She was also an avid reader and loved to travel and took advantage of the benefits of working for the airlines. Later in life she enjoyed visiting family members.

She was the eldest of four children. She leaves a sister, Barbara Ann Becraft (Mrs. Joseph A. D`Agostino) formerly of New Hartford and now of Glens Falls; two brothers C. Gary Becraft (Irene Vetrano Becraft) of Central Square and P. Michael Becraft (Carolyn Howland Becraft) of Burke, VA.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Stafford and Linda Smith Stafford of Dover, NH and Scott Stafford and his wife, De Anna Hendrix Stafford of New Hartford. She also leaves four grandchildren, Jeremy and Justin Stafford; Conrad and Carolyn "CJ" Stafford and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy was ahead of her time as a working Mother, she was able to manage raising her family and her demanding job with aplomb.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care and the Care Givers, Inc. for the all the care and comfort that they had given to Nancy.
