Millard William Becraft, 82, of Memphis, MO, passed away January 22, 2003, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, MO.
Millard was born January 18, 1921, in Downing, MO, the son of William and Bessie Becraft.
On September 17, 1950, Millard married Helen Marie Morrison, who survives, and to this union three children were born.
Millard attended Barker School and was a member of Barker United Methodist Church. He served as a combat engineer in the United States Army from 1943 through 1946 during World War II in Belgium, France and Germany.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #16, A.F. & A.M., a past delegate of MFA Oil Company, past commander V.F.W. Post #4958, and a past member of Missouri Land improvement contractors. Millard was a self-employed conservation contractor until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lowell, Robert and Gene, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a grandson.
Surviving are his wife, Helen; children, Connie Becraft of Kansas City, MO, Mikel Becraft and wife, Kathy of Memphis, MO, and Bill Becraft of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Teneille Leach and husband, Sam, Sheila Zeysing, all of Kansas City, MO, Shane Zeysing of Fort Carson, CO, Lindsay and Beau Becraft of Memphis, MO; one great-granddaughter, Sammie Jo Leach of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Russell Becraft and wife, Dovey of Tampa, FL, Don Becraft of Moberly, MO; four sisters, Florence Weilbrenner of Bloomfield, IA, Marjorie Evans, Veatrice Goins, Dorene Moore and husband, Sydney, all of Memphis, MO, along with several nieces and nephews.
Millard will be sadly missed by his wife, family, and many dear friends and good neighbors.
The family has suggested memorials to Barker Church or V.F.W. Post #4958 and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO 63555.
Funeral services were held January 25, 2003 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack, officiating. Pallbearers were Shane Zeysing, Beau Becraft, Junior Shinn, Ronnie Brown, Bill Adams and Dan Meinhardt. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Milanov, Win Hill, Victor Orf, Norris Gaffney, Henry Adams, and George Kull. Interment was in the Barker Cemetery in rural Scotland County, MO, with Military Graveside Honors by Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958, Memphis, MO.

Helen was born, September 5, 1933 at home in rural Scotland County to William Dawson and Iva Olive Moon Morrison. She attended Memphis High School completing the eleventh grade. On September 17, 1950 she married Millard William Becraft and to this union three children were born.
Helen knew how to work on the farm, milking cows, as well as in later years being a school bus driver for which she received the Million Mile Award. She also drove a rock truck. She became a great cook and was noted for her pies, which she sold to area restaurants. She was noted for her gardens. Helen was very active in the VFW Auxiliary for fifty years. Helen enjoyed many activities in her free time but was most happy spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her children; Connie Becraft of Kansas City, Missouri, Mikel Becraft of Memphis, Missouri and William Dean Becraft of Kansas City, Missouri, five grandchildren: Teneille Leach and Christopher Flick, Sheila and Blake Waterworth, Shane Zeysing and wife Dana, of Kansas City, Missouri, Lindsay Tippett and husband Cole of Memphis, Missouri, Beau Becraft and wife Emily of Quincy, Illinois, 13 great grandchildren and a brother, John T. Morrison of Alexandria, Missouri.
