Betty I. Becraft, 82, of Battle Creek died Friday, November 12, 2004, at Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield, VA after a long illness. She moved to the Chesterfield area to be near her daughter. She was born May 2, 1922 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Carl & Marie (Nobles) Sprister. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and lived in Battle Creek for most of her life. She had a long and fulfilling career as a Christian Education Secretary at the First Presbyterian Church, retiring after 24 years of faithful service. Betty married Merle M. Becraft in Climax on November 17, 1945 and they were married 52 years before he preceded her in death on August 17, 1998. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Linda Becraft-Hall & Arthur E. Hall, IV. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, volunteered at what is now Battle Creek Health System and was also a member of a sewing/arts & crafts group. She traveled to Lakeland, FL after retirement, spending the winter season there at her second home. Betty enjoyed playing golf, camping with family & friends, cross-stitching and making dolls. At the request of the family, friends may call 12:30 - 1:00p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m.with Rev. James Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek or the American Heart Association.
