The family of Marvin Douglas (Mick) BeCraft, 69, of South Corning, sadly announces the departure of our brother, father, and friend.
Mick left his earthly home on September 3, 2013 at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
He entered this world in Corning, NY on June 16, 1944, the third son of Charles D. and Mary Szepanska BeCraft. Mick graduated from Northside High School in 1962.
Following the death of his father, Mick and his brother Tom assumed management of BeCraft Tire and Motor Company.
Seeking a warmer climate, he left the family business after twenty years and pointed his compass toward California, and finally Florida.
He managed the Swim Pool Emporium in Port St. Lucie, Florida for the next 15 years.
His love of fishing accompanied him, and he moved from river and lake fishing to "catching the big ones" in ocean waters.
Mick was an avid book reader, loved the music of Elvis and Roy Orbison, and enjoyed playing his conga drums. In 2000, with arising medical issues, he returned to his family in Corning.
In addition to his parents, Mick was predeceased by his brother Thomas in 2008, by his grandparents LeRoy and Dora Hall Becraft and Antoni and Mary Wisniuk Szepanski , and his cousins Curt and Jim BeCraft.
Surviving are his four daughters and two sons: Tina BeCraft Reese, Marlene BeCraft, Charmaine Bergeron, Misty Wilson, Marvin BeCraft, Jr., and Michael BeCraft. Mick is also survived by his sister Anna BeCraft , brother Charles (Darcy) BeCraft, nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, cousins Betty BeCraft Crozier, Charles Szepansky, Sandra Szepansky Schofield, and his constant and beloved canine companions Angel and Princess.
Rest in Peace, Mick. We wish you peace, love, safe passage '96 and good fishing!
He will be missed greatly by his quadrant of friends '96 Tom Diaddigo, Byron Shove, Bucky Allen, and Russ Diederich, who gave Mick companionship, friendship, help, and comfort.
Friends are invited to refreshments at a Celebration of Mick's Life, 5 PM Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Steuben County VFW Memorial Building, 7230 St. Route 54, Bath, NY.
If inclined, memoriams in Mick's name can be made to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 7315 St. Route 54, Bath, NY, or you can provide a kind word or deed to someone who needs you.
