In the matter of the Petition of Arthur L. Kiff under chapter 667 of the laws of 1915 for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the operation of a stage route by auto buses in the city of Corning, it being proposed that the route shall also be operated between Corning and Keuka Landing. Petition and Supplemental Petition of Leroy D. Becraft for consent to assign the certificate.
By order dated April 27, 1916, this Commission granted a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the operation by Arthur L. Kiff of an auto bus route over certain streets in the city of Corning, to be operated as part of a route extending to Keuka Landing, on Keuka Lake. This certificate was assigned to Leroy D. Becraft with the consent of this Commission given by order dated May 15, 1917. On August 9, 1917, Leroy D. Becraft sold to Martin Chrisjohn, for the sum of $850, one Studebaker sixteen passenger auto buss used on siad route, together with tools, extra tires, tubes and accessories, and also assigned to him, without consideration, the certificate of convenience and necessity. The lawyer who had charge of the matter entered the United States Army service shortly after the transaction was completed, and both parties considered the whole matter was taken care of by him. Upon being notified by the Commission, the petition for consent to assignment nunc pro tune was filed. A hearing was held, and Leroy D. Becraft and Martin Chrisjohn, who as been operating the route, having appeared and explained, as above stated, why consent to the assignment had not sooner been asked; and it appearing from the petition and the evidence heard that this Commission may properly consent to such assignment, it is
Ordered: That the consent of this Commission be and it hereby is given to the assignment by Leroy D. Becraft to Martin Chrisjohn of the said certificate of public convenience and necessity nunc pro tune as of August 9, 1917.

Funeral services for Leroy D. Becraft of 265 East Market street were held Saturday afternoon at the Stover Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. Dr. Elmer J. Stuart, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial took place at Campbell.
Bearers were James Seitz, Edward Howlett, Gordon Gee, James Miller, Clifford Davis and Bert Oldroyd.

Burns Fatal to Mother of Becraft
Mrs. Dora I. Crawford, 59, 265 E. Market St., who suffered first and second degree burns all over her body in the fire Tue which completely destroyed the Charles D. Becraft Tire Co. building, over which she lived, died at 7:45 am today in Corning Hospital.
Mrs. Crawford's death is the second from burns in Corning and vicinity in less that four months. In May, Mrs. Ethel Owen, South Corning, died as a result of burns received when flames destroyed her home.
Fire Chief Sheedy stated today that the completely gutted condition of the building, which was condemned as a fire hazard by Former Fire Chief John W. McCarthy a few years ago, would prevent firemen from discovering the cause of the fire. The blaze was reported about 5:40 am.
Chief Sheedy discounted the possibility that a paper fire in the alley at the rear of the building might have started the conflagration. He explained that the rear of the building is of cinder-black, which is fireproof.
Mr. Becraft, who was working in the building until nearly 5 am, told Chief Sheedy that he had no insurance.
The fire, according to Mr. Becraft, destroyed stock and equipment valued at between $12,000 and $15,000, as well as several hundred dollars worth of customers' tires which were being repaired.
The condition of Fireman Edwin Robinson, who was committed to Corning Hospital with back and leg injuries received when he fell from a ladder in an attempt to rescue Mrs. Crawford, was reported today by the Hospital to be "fair".
Fire Chief William Sheedy who was on the ladder directly beneath Robinson when the ladder fell, remained at home today with a neck injury suffered when the fireman's falling body struck him on the head. Chief Sheedy also suffered minor burns on his hands and wrists when he caught Mrs. Crawford, whose clothing was blazing. The Chief had highest praise for Frieman Robinson, who was also hospitalized some time ago for injuries received in a fire at Gibson.
Mrs. Crawford was born in Addison, Sept 4, 1883, the daughter of James and Irene Harrison Hall. She was twice married, first to the late LeRoy Becraft and later to Mr. Crawford. She was a resident at Corning for about 50 years and attended Grace methodist Church.
