• His obituary was published. Joseph James Becraft passed away at the age of 50 on December 17, 2017 after a long illness. Joe was a loving father, son, and brother. Joe was born and raised in Indiana where he excelled academically and enjoyed playing Little League Baseball. His family moved to South Dakota in 1982, and he attended Sturgis Brown High School where he continued to excel academically and athletically in basketball, football and track. After graduating in 1986, he moved to Northern California where he worked for United Parcel Service for the next 17 years. Joe married Jami Miller (Gamez) in 1993 and they had two sons, C.J. and Jason. The family moved to Peoria, AZ in 2004 where he worked for Airgas Corporation in Phoenix from 2004 until 2017. Joe was very active in his sons' lives as father and coach to many of their sports teams. In 2011, Joe reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Nancy Behrens Keffeler. She was the love of his life who remained a faithful friend by his side through his illness. Joe is survived by his sons C.J. and Jason Becraft of Peoria, AZ, his mother Cheryl Brereton of Peoria, AZ, brothers Wayne Becraft of Colorado, and William Becraft of Colorado, Grandfather Fred McWhinney Kendallville, Indiana, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. Joe is also survived by his extended family; David Brereton, Justin Brereton, Katie Wesolek and Jeana Brereton. Joe enjoyed sports, cooking and a good game of poker with his friends. He was very talented in woodworking and landscaping. Joe loved his two boys with all his heart and was a loving and protective son to his mother. As Wayne and William's big brother he was always ready to talk, listen, and offer guidance to them. Joe will be sorely missed and always loved by his family and friends. He will be in our hearts and memories forever. Be at peace my son, love Mom.
