becraftkids.jpgFriends and colleagues in Cornell'sDivision of Risk Management and Public Safety paused at their Sept. 24 meeting to remember computer analyst Jason Becraft, who died Sept. 13 during the AIDS Ride for Life.
Becraft was stricken 10 miles into a 100-mile annual bicycle ride and fundraiser. He was 32 and lived in King Ferry. He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn, and two children, Evan and Stella (pictured). Becraft was a musician and songwriter, an avid cyclist who also enjoyed camping and hiking, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Jason Richard Becraft, 32, loving husband and devoted father, passed away suddenly while on a bicycle ride for a charitable cause. Jason's life centered on his family, his wife, Jocelyn, and his two treasured children, Evan and Stella. He was predeceased by his father, Richard H. Becraft, Jr. in 1981; and his father-in-law, Dana Platt, earlier this year. Jason is survived by his mother, Sharon Robinson, South Carolina; stepfather, Richard Bosket, Binghamton; siblings, Amanda and Rob Szczepanski, Johnson City, Keith Becraft, Binghamton, Lisa Bosket, Johnson City, Tracia and Tim Harper, Binghamton and Jared and Kim Bosket, Johnson City; grandfather, Richard H. Bosket, Florida; mother-in-law, Constance Platt, Conklin; brother-in-law, Danny Platt, New Church, Va.; and sister-in-law, Daphne Platt, Pleasantville, N.Y. He leaves behind a large extended family. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Jason was a computer analyst at Cornell University. Along with being a family man, Jason's life was built around his music and love for the outdoors.
Funeral services in celebration of Jason's life will be held 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until the time of services. Memorial contributions in Jason's name can be made to Evan and Stella Becraft, by stopping into any SEFCU branch or via mail to Evan and Stella Becraft, c/o SEFCU, Mbr. A former Binghamton resident, Jason Becraft, 32, of King Ferry north of Ithaca, died unexpectedly during the AIDS Ride for Life 100-mile bicycle ride Saturday.

Becraft collapsed about 10 miles into the ride, which runs along Cayuga Lake's east shore.
The event raises money for AIDS and HIV services in eight counties served by the Southern Tier AIDS Program.
According to Press & Sun-Bulletin archives, Becraft was an accomplished bowler who had competed in the newspaper's bowling tournament.
He survived by his wife, Jocelyn, and children, Evan, 6, and Stella, 3. He was a programmer at Cornell University's Division of Risk Management and Public Safety.
